About

Del Frisco’s Grille is an upscale chain restaurant. It’s the little brother of Del Friscos steakhouse, which is ever so slightly more fancy and more expensive, albeit not by much.  Del Friscos Grille can be found all over the US, but Local Tasters brunch at the Stamford, CT location. The Stamford Del Frisco’s Grille has a nice big bar, cozy booths and traditional dining tables throughout. The bar features several flat screen TVs for those looking for a distraction, while the dining room has a full view of the open kitchen.

The Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary Del FriscosThe Bloody Mary at Del Friscos is a Local Taste Favorite. It’s up there in ranking somewhere between 1st and 5th place as a Local Taste favorite. It is loaded with seasoning, has an impressive consistency and served in a perfectly salt and pepper rimmed glass. It really stands out from the more commonly found ‘thin and tangy’ Bloody Marys found ’round these parts. (AKA- the Cheap Mary.) Del Friscos serves up their Bloody Marys by the glass or the carafe. The carafe is $19 and we squeeze 5-6 Bloodys out of it. The one and only disappointment with the Del Friscos Bloody Mary is that the menu says it comes with ‘build your own garnish’ and not once has this ‘garnish’ ever shown up. One time we asked about it and the bartender disappeared into the kitchen and came back with a mason jar of celery, bacon and pickles. It was good, but I shouldn’t have had to ask since it said it on the menu. Garnish is the only buzzkill on this Bloody Mary.

The Brunch Scene

Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich del friscosDel Friscos Grille doesn’t offer much in terms of a ‘brunch vibe.’ It is a quiet brunch scene and you’ll need to make your own fun. But they are welcoming and happy to have you. The dining room is often host to those celebrating special occasions and local couples enjoying a glass of champagne with brunch. The bar is usually host to a small handful of diners watching sports on the televisions with no volume. Local Tasters, small and large groups, enjoy hanging at the bar for hours. It’s spacious, clean and those who like sports can watch while those who don’t aren’t forced to listen to the announcers and commercials that go along with a game at most bars. It’s a win-win.

Good to Know

Brunch is served on Sundays until 3:00pm. Typically you do not need a reservation. We found that the online menu does not always match the offerings for both menu and cocktails so don’t rely on it.  Furthermore on the menu, if you are craving a steak, you are better off coming from dinner when they have a variety of steaks on the menu because the brunch menu does not offer any.

Tasters tip on dinner: If you get the chance, grab dinner at Del Friscos during Stamford Restaurant Week. It’s the best bang for your buck.

All about the Eats

Eggs Benedict Del FriscosSure, you expect a bakery basket as a brunch appetizer. But you won’t find that at Del Friscos. Brunch appetizers are standard lunch menu appetizers such as wings, chips and guac, flatbreads, ect. But one appetizer stands out above all the rest-the cheesesteak egg rolls. They are a lot less fancy than you would expect from a steakhouse but oh, soooo tasty. They are fried, savory, salty and sweet all at the same time and just so damn good! They also go very well with a Bloody Mary. Cheesesteak Egg Rolls get the thumbs up all the way.

We found the Eggs Benedict to be ‘just okay.’ The ham was fresh and everything was seasoned well, but the eggs had a unique texture that we didn’t care for. If you look at the picture closely you can see the perfectly round shape of the eggs that seems a bit unnatural compared to other poached eggs. Overall, the Eggs Benedict gets the Local Taste thumbs down.

The shaved Prime Rib Sandwich is the perfect afternoon sandwich. Tip:  Don’t skip out on the horseradish sauce and if you are feeling crazy, ask them to add some cheddar. This gets the thumbs up.

If you are looking for something on the lighter side, the caesar salad is a simple, classic caesar salad. It’s nothing to crave, but you’ll be satisfied with your choice. Thumbs up.

We also had the opportunity to try the Lollipop Chicken Wings and for these we need to issue a warning. They should come with a 5 alarm fire warning! They were too hot for us to even pretend to enjoy so we are giving these a big thumbs down.

The Final Say

If you are looking for a really good Bloody Mary in a somewhat upscale environment, Del Friscos Stamford is the place to be. Their Bloody Mary is in the Local Taste top 5. While the brunch food itself is not that exciting or impressive, the lunch menu is solid. This is a great place to go alone and kick back for a few hours with a Basketball game, a book or your laptop. Or, grab some friends, split a carafe of Bloody Marys or Screwdrivers and have yourself a Sunday Funday!
