The Clarke Cooke House

During an afternoon stroll, we were drawn in to The Clarke Cooke House  by the airy atmosphere and the old world decor that seemed to transport us to the earlier days of Newport, RI. We were happy with our decision to stop in when the seasoned bartender knew what wine to pour me before I could finish the words describing what I was looking for- he nailed it. We stayed for a good while sipping cocktails, eating oysters and chatting with him, a 40 year veteran of the Newport restaurant scene.

We left here quite satisfied and when our left Jo’s American Bistro disappointed and unsatisfied, we decided to head back to the Clarke Cooke House for some redemption. On this visit we cozied up to the upstairs bar which offers a different vibe than the lower bar we sat at earlier. It has more of steakhouse ambiance vs the lower level’s nautical influence.
